Nastrè is a transdisciplinary artist, alchemist, and philosopher from New Delhi, India. 

They work across mediums exploring the possibilities of brain aerobics by accessing and stimulating the sensorium. 

Their practice builds a firm base of training in performance and visual arts, combines spirituality and psychology that makes a strong heart, and the vocabulary of perfumery and understanding of body mechanics adds hints of science to the topnote.

We bring to you olfactory work that is carefully curated, doesn’t follow industry trends, and hopes to expand notions about olfaction and its possibilities.

Story

bhakti_aka_nastrè

While Nastrè is an entity in itself, it is steered by bhakti, a genderfluid being from New Delhi, India. 
To understand how Nastrè was birthed and what it really is, we must also dive into the journey of bhakti

(this might be TMI but here we go…)

Raised as a classical Odissi dancer, bhakti was introduced to the art world at a young age and was instantly charmed by it. They soon realized that their artistic inclination isn’t limited to one art form and hence trained in many dance forms and simultaneously picked up various visual art mediums. With a training in psychology, they developed a strong belief that disciplines aren’t airtight containers and developed the urge to blend these inorder to enable a dialogue between them. Their training in Performance Studies urges them to look closely at politics, cultures and traditions.

Being the only child, the responsibility of carrying forward the tradition of perfumery that had been in the family was recognized early in life but realized eventually. They had learned from the elders through observation and conversation but finally after Covid-19 briefly took away their sense of taste and smell, bhakti went on to learn this art form from Grasse Institute of Perfumery, France. Hence, Nastrè was birthed…
